Over the past couple week's I've been privileged enough to be on some other guys shows to talk Ice Wolves hockey.
Of course the first question I'm asked is, "something something Marc-Andre Carre, Doug Lindensmith and Travis Egum, something something?" At this point I am running out of different ways to say how good these guys are playing. The chemistry the Ice Wolves scoring line has found is amazing. They always know where each other are, and they have the talent and skill-sets to make it work.
What does get eclipsed sometimes is just how well the rest of the team has been playing.
Take Phil Cliche ('92) for example. The young Ice Wolves forward is quietly putting together a great season. Stat line right now? 7-21-28 in 31 games played. That ties him with Logan Herauf for 4th in team scoring and just outside the top 30 in the league.
The Ice Wolves second line (Herauf, Cliche and Justin Ducharme) has been less deadly than the top line, but are still giving defenses fits all around the league. When you have two guys (Cliche, Herauf) that are brilliant playmakers and a natural scorer like Justin Ducharme, it's a great mix. Maybe more impressive is the line's work ethic. It's pretty much an Ice Wolves trademark, but this line can grind out a goal almost as well as they can get one with skill.
There will come a time this season, when the top line is shut down. We saw it on Wednesday against the Bruins for 53 minutes until they finally broke out, but that won't always happen. When that does happen, rest assured the second line will be ready to take on the scoring duties.
But, don't just take it from me... here's Ice Wolves Head Coach Bob Beatty on the depth of the Ice Wolves! CLICK TO LISTEN
Coming up tomorrow I'll have a preview for the Ice Wolves/Bruins game.
